The Fremont, NH Conservation Commission is an all-volunteer group which is appointed by the Board of Selectmen. It operates under the auspices of New Hampshire RSA 36-A, which empowers the Conservation Commission to provide "for the proper utilization and protection of the natural resources and for the protection of watershed resources of said city or town."

Community Technical Assistance Program (CTAP) – Open Space Plan
The Town of Fremont extends an invitation to residents and other interested parties to participate in a planning Task Force to develop strategies and recommendations for protection of open space. The project is sponsored by the Community Technical Assistance Program (CTAP) as part of the I-93 improvement project and administered by staff of the Rockingham Planning Commission. Open Space Task Force members will be responsible for participating in a series of five (5) two (2) -hour work sessions scheduled from April through May of 2009. The work sessions will involve facilitated discussions of natural resource values, interpretation of maps, and development of land protection strategies and open space planning for the Town.
The Task Force is now organized and will hold meetings on the first Tuesday of each month in the main meeting room at the Fremont Town Hall.
The next meeting will be at 7:00 pm on November 3, 2009.

Natural Resources Outreach Publication
The Fremont Conservation Commission has received a grant from the Piscataqua Region Estuaries Partnership (formerly the NH Estuaries Project) to produce a Natural Resource Outreach publication to educate residents about the importance of buffers, wetlands and the river corridor and what residents can do to protect these resources and water quality in Fremont.
The publication is almost finished and will be available in the near future.

CONSERVATION EASEMENTS
At the Town Forest Ordinance public hearings, there was discussion about the Conservation Easement on the Glen Oakes land.
These documents (and all deeds, easements, liens, etc) can be found at the county registry website nhdeeds.com. Click on Rockingham County, and go through the acceptance and user agreements,then on search county records. Once you get to the place where you can search, the documents can be found by book and page or grantee/grantor. You can also go to the Rockingham County Registry of Deeds in Brentwood NH (10 Route 125) to research any of this information or purchase copies.
The CE deed from Glen Oakes Associates to the Town is recorded at Book 4592 Page 1073.
The CE deed from the Town to the Society for Protection of NH Forests is recorded at Book 4592 Page 1054.

CC GRANT awarded FOR TOWN FOREST SIGNS
The Conservation Commission is happy to announce that it was recently awarded $850.00 from the Environmental Community Grant Program. The Commission applied for the grant to fund trail signs and associated posts and hardware in the Town Forest.
CC GRANT FOR WETLAND INVENTORY
The Conservation Commission used a $9,000.00 CTAP Grant from the New Hampshire Estuaries Program to fund a portion of a Wetland Inventory/Prime Wetland Study of the 54 wetlands over 2 acres in size within the town. The Commission contracted with Mark West of West Environmental of Lee to perform the research and the final report. The project was made up of three phases: Wetland Inventory, Wetland Evaluation and Prime Wetland Designation. All phases have been completed and the designation was approved by the Fremont Voters at the 2008 Town Meeting. The Prime Wetlands designation is now awaiting approval of NH DES.
The Conservation Commission has been awarded a NHEP
transaction grant for Glen Oakes via the Center for Land Conservation Assistance, part of SPNHF for $3000.
The purpose of this grant is to offset transaction costs for the acquisition of the Glen Oakes property.

The Open Space Committee is in the beginning process of creating a Wildlife/Song Bird Inventory for the Glen Oakes Land. We are looking for volunteers to help with the field work for the study. If you have an interest in wildlife and/or song birds, this would be a great opportunity to get out onto the land and discover some of its hidden treasures! ERLAC LOOKING FOR MEMBERS FROM FREMONT
The Exeter River Local Advisory Committee (ERLAC) is looking for two additional residents from Fremont to serve on the Committee, which meets monthly in Brentwood. ERLAC is actively involved with protecting water quality, water quantity and wildlife habitat in the Exeter River watershed. ERLAC also provides education outreach through presentations open to the public, a spring vernal pool workshop and the Alewife Festival. If you are interested in joining an active group of volunteers and interested in learning more about the River, please contact Theresa Walker of the Rockingham Planning Commission at 778-0885. GET INVOLVED IN FREMONT'S FUTURE
We need your help! There are open positions available on all of Fremont's land use boards. This includes the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Adjustment, and Conservation Commission.
The positions involve evening meetings and occasional site walks. The positions require dedication to the Board or Commission; knowledge of the Town's regulations, ordinances and procedures, and a willingness to participate in community issues. This knowledge can be gained as you attend meetings and become familiar with regulations and ordinances.
